Is it a bird, is it a plane? The great mysteries of Samhain

At Samhain we think of the big mysteries - life, death and all the problematic things inbetween. And the flying object that is neither bird nor plane title is that stern woman of mystery, traveller between dimensions and catalyst of magic, Mary Poppins, who flys into the Banks’ nursery on a parrot-headed umbrella-parachute whenever the wind is in the right direction. Her author P. L. Travers was a great esoteric thinker, explorer and philosopher and, in her Mary Poppins books, made some intriguing suggestions which addressed the ‘big questions’ of communication and understanding in a sentient universe. In The New One a new baby in the nursery describes to a starling and her fledgling exactly how she came into incarnation… it’s a wonderful journey through the elements and the cosmos. Mary Poppins may be one of the great Earth Mother avatars; certainly she does what many Druids and Magicians try to do - she dances to the rhythms of magic. So, at this enchanted time, ladle a mug of soup from your Samhain cauldron, leave and offering to the wild life both in this dimension and the more subtle realms, toast your toes by the fire and relax with the story below. Enjoy!

The blessing of safety to you at Samhain;

Of the nurturing dark and the bright inspiration of stars and moon;

The blessing of warmth, comfort and security;

Of frisson, intuition and wonder;

The blessing of all the enchantment that you are ready to receive

From a living world that is ready to give in abundance.

Deep dreams and sweet sleep refresh you; cold walks warm your blood

And the jewels of fallen autumn leaves ravish your senses as you

Walk into your future.

Happy Samhain to all, Penny /|\
